Gro Interview Part 2
I: Are you aware of your increasing global profile and the fact that you have fans all over the world?
G: Well, of course we noticed that you come here and some girls from different countries have been watching the games, but like I said to you it’s… I think it’s healthy not to spend so much time thinking about this because… well of course it’s a good thing but it’s important to just stay focused on the handball and just be yourself and if someone likes what you do, it’s fantastic but…
I: So does it make you uncomfortable that some of these…a lot of people see you as an icon or a role model?
G: No, I think this is of course just a good thing but like I said I think it’s important to not try to think about it a lot because … I think the important thing is to just be yourself and have fun playing handball. And of course if a lot of people know you, a lot of people have opinions about you…
I: sure
G: And some are good and some are bad and I’m sad to say it but I almost always remember the bad stuff more than I remember the good stuff, so… Well, I’m just happy and thankful that… well you guys are showing up and cheering for us and… of course I know you cheered for
I2: *coughs*
G: … the other team today.
I2: Nooo…
I: we kept her quiet. Arm around her throat. So which is the country you’d really like to visit but you haven’t been to yet? Or somewhere you’d really like to go back to?
G: Many countries. But I really want to go to Australia.
I: You haven’t been?
G: No, I haven’t been.
I: It’s great.
G: I don’t know why but I’ve been dreaming about this…at night… two or three times the last weeks, so it’s a sign
I: It is a sign
G: I have to go there.
I: It is a sign, ok, so we need to organize some tournament in Aussie. There’re some Australian fans that will be very pleased to hear that. I’m sure you might have some invitations. Did you discover any new sports when you were in Beijing at the Olympics, were there things that you looked at and you thought Fantastic, I wanna play that?
G: No, but…Katja, she loves all sports. So she’s very interested and of course that makes me…
I: You have to watch them?
G: Yeah… But…it wasn’t a lot of time actually, to see all the other sports unfortunately
I: You stayed in right to the end unfortunately
G: Yeah…But I think men’s handball is also fantastic to watch
I: Did you see those game as well?
G: Yeah
I: Did you see the final?
G: Yeah.
I: Do you know..... I think....I mean, I’ve got loads more stuff but ....you know..
G: You just ask if it’s any more questions
I: I was gonna ask you about advertising and publicity campaigns and how do you select those when you agreed to take part in that. So like I mean the Adidas sponsorship and the Amnesty ones as well…
G: It’s kind of difficult because in Norway you’re not allowed to do anything because of the National Team. They kind of own you. So just to be a part of the Adidas campaign was a big, big, long discussion. But it’s not so much time to do these kind of things because they of course want you to come to Germany or to Barcelona or somewhere to do advertisement and we don’t have a lot of free time to travel. So it’s kind of difficult to do these things but of course we have a short career and I think it’s important if you can, sometimes make some money for yourself and put it aside till the rest of my life. It’s a good thing. So I try to do some things but we’re not allowed to do very much. And I don’t want to use my time, my free time on travelling alone.
I: Im sure that somebody else could be featured in..... but then you have Pontus as well...
G: Almost every time I go somewhere, I bring my family, so…
I: You need to try and organise it so that there is someone who pays |
